Famous Dave’s opening Beaverton BBQ Shack May 2

Famous Dave’s BBQ will open a BBQ Shack, the company’s fast-casual concept, at 3260 S.W. Cedar Hills Blvd. in Beaverton early next month.
The Beaverton outpost is Famous Dave’s third in Oregon, after the Tigard and Northeast Portland locations, and it’s the first BBQ Shack in the state. According to a press release, the national chain has 54 locations  and franchises and 133 “additional units” across 37 states.

The first 100 guests in line for the grand opening, set for 4 p.m. May  2, get a free half slab dinner — six ribs, one side and a corn bread muffin — once a  week for a year.
Although several large restaurant chains have contracted or closed outright in Oregon over the past few years, the two concepts taking a chance on the Portland Metro Area right now seem to be, oddly, barbecue pits and vegan cafes.
Famous Dave’s was preceded by Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, which opened at 124 N.E. 3rd St. in Gresham late last year, while two Southern California-based chains, Veggie Grill and Native Foods Cafe, have opened outposts around town. Michael Russell
