Beaverton Sub Station : Beaverton Lunch Link

There’s nothing like getting a sandwich served with the side of a sweet deal. Sub Station isn’t glamorous, and at the same time it’s like taking a trip into a time machine where good food is the order of the day. When all restaurants were privately owned and the proprietor was there serving it up.  Yelp – Read More>

L & L Hawaiian Barbecue – Beaverton

L & L Hawaiian Barbecue - Beaverton

Last Saturday my friend Ray and I were looking for good place for lunch, when Ray suggested we try L & L Hawaiian Barbecue. The restaurant is located on the back side of the Beaverton Mall, near Powell Books &  the theater.

Front Counter At L&L

To understand the L&L Hawaiian Barbecue® concept, one must look back to the history of the food that L&L has branded as Hawaiian Barbecue(SM) – the Hawaiian plate lunch. The traditional Hawaiian plate lunch consists of two servings of rice, a serving of macaroni salad, and features a generous serving of a hot entrée (a smaller “mini” version of the traditional plate lunch consists of one serving of rice, a serving of macaroni salad, and a small serving of a hot entrée). L&L Hawaiian Barbecue’s® unique meal composition and signature brand of Asian and American fusion cuisine has helped it to stand out from the others that offer Hawaiian style cuisine.

Hawaiian Barbeque Mix

We tried the Hawaiian Barbecue Mix. This plate includes Hawaiian barbecue beef, chicken, short ribs, 2 scoops of rice and 1 scoop of macaroni salad.

The price was very reasonable for the amount of food they give you, only $7.75

Ray and I both thought the food was good. I especially liked the barbecue sauce, a combination of sweet and spicy.

The place is very small, only about 6 tables. They appear to do a lot of take out. So if your looking for some good Hawaiian barbecue give L & L a try.

Black Bear Diner – Beaverton

Black Bear Diner - Beaverton

The first time I went to a Black Bear Diner was about five years ago. My family and I were on our way to Sunriver and we stopped for lunch at the Bear in Madras.  The first thing I smelled and saw when we walked in the door was a large glassed in rotisserie oven, cooking  turkeys. Well that sold me, I decided to order a hot turkey sandwich and from that day on I have been a big fan.

In 1995, founders Bob & Laurie Manley, along with founding partner Bruce Dean, created the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, California. In choosing a name and a theme for their restaurant, Bob, Laurie, and Bruce, immediately decided upon the black bear. It was a natural. The legendary black bear is native to the Mt. Shasta area. Today there are 40 locations in the Western United States.

When the Beaverton location opened shortly after that trip I was sad to see there was no glassed in rotisserie, but the quality and quantity of the food was still as good as ever.

This Sunday my daughter Jessi and I dropped by the Beaverton Bear for lunch. After looking at the menu I decided to try the Hot Turkey sandwich again. The turkey was moist the bread fresh and the gravy plentiful. One thing you never have to worry about when you eat at the Bear is leaving hungry.

Hot Turkey Sandwich

Jessi was in the mood to have breakfast for lunch and she ordered the Chorizo Scramble: a delicious combination of scrambled egg mixed with chorizo and covered with jack cheese, and served with hash browns, tortilla, and homemade salsa.  “It was a pure pleasure eating at the Black Bear! The atmosphere of the diner was comforting, and homey. Everything tasted fresh, and was perfectly cooked! “Jessi highly recommend’s the Black Bear to anyone who is looking for a good ole’ home cooked meal.

Chorizo Scramble

The prices are very reasonable my Hot Turkey Sandwich was $7.99 and Jessi’s Chorizo Scramble was only $8.99. So if you are looking for a good place for lunch in Beaverton one of my personal favorites is the Black bear Diner.
